A close quarter-final game at Sutton saw Ewell Village make it through to the Surrey Mixed Fours Semi-Finals beating a top Sutton team. It didn’t look good with Ewell 9 down after 4 ends but the team came back to win a 4 on the last end and take the game 18 shots to 17.

Our Smiths League ladies topped Group A and now move on to the semi-finals and finals to be held at Sutton Bowling Club on Saturday 27th August. In the morning semi-finals, they will play Group B runners-up Banstead Neville, while Sutton, the Group B winners, will play Chessington. The winners of both matches will then contest the final in the afternoon. Third and fourth places will also be contested by the mornings runner-ups. Good luck to those playing!

There were last minute changes to the pairs and running order, but the 4-end, 2-4-2 format games got underway in glorious weather. The final was contested between Emiko Murrell & Tony Blakeburn and Chris Sharp & Stephen Brown, with Emiko & Tony emerging winners. This was followed by the traditional Spider, where all players are spread around the green, with one foot in the ditch and a jack in the centre. On a shout from Dennis, everyone aimed a bowl at the jack, with Chris Bunton winning a bottle of whisky for being closest (for the second year running). Tony, Stephen and Graham then donned aprons to prepare the BBQ which, together with copious salads and side dishes provided by numerous members, made for a lovely meal. A large collection of prizes in the raffle finished off the day.

Three members of Ewell Village Bowling Club had an enjoyable outing at the Ashtead Bowling Club’s Invitation Mixed Triples Day on Friday 22nd July. The weather was kind to all with a few drops of rain but nothing untoward. Not only did the Ewell trio win a couple of raffle prizes, but they won the tournament outright. Congratulations to Tracie Bailey, Steve Everett and Martin Bailey.

Congratulations to Tracie and Veena for reaching the finals of the Blesma Pairs, held at Southey Bowling Club on 25/09/2021. Although not victorious against Cheam Fields, they did themselves and EVBC proud.
