Australian Pairs 2026

Competitors and spectators battled through the heat to enjoy another great 'Australian Pairs' day. The first round comprised 4 groups of 3 pairs. Groups A&B and C&D played each other with the top pair in each group progressing to the final. The final was between Ellen & Allen and Denise & Geoff, with Denise & Geoff emerging as winners. Everyone was able to to access the fabulous buffet as matches dictated. The various desserts and cakes were wonderful, but Heathers amazing meringues stole the show, as usual. And the bar did well all day! The day finished with the traditional 'Spider' with everyone arranged around the green and on the governors call, everyone rolled their bowl towards the centrally placed jack, with Chris K winning a koala bear for being the closest.

Ladies Rose Bowl Pairs

It was good to see the Ladies Rose Bowls Pairs competition being played again albeit with just 5 pairs taking part. The four-end, round-robin competition was played on a lovely afternoon, with Alison Cousins and Vicky Van Mannen winning overall and Ellen Swain and Susan Gill in second place. The day finished with a cream tea which was enjoyed by all. Thanks go to Ritu Varma and her team for organising the day and the refreshments, and to Derek Learwood who coordinated the matches and scores.

Syd Brown Champions

The Daffodils clinched the Syd Brown trophy for 2023 on the final fixture. With Tony Doyle on holiday, and down to three available players, another dropped out last minute requiring the use of super-sub Eric Webb, to avoid disqualification.
