Finals Weekend 2023
Tuesday 12th September 2023 10:55am
Rain figured strongly in the run-up to the finals, but sunny weather arrived just in time. Repeating the 2022 final, the more consistent rinks towards the railway were used again. However, this year, a few changes to the scoring were made. The old wooden scoreboards were used as they matched the new red and white lollipops, which were used by markers of the singles matches. These became a firm favourite with the spectators who cheered and applauded the markers when they were flourished. Finally, the scoreboards were updated by the players/markers, all as per the recent National finals. It was also great to see Tony Blakeburn on the Saturday who is recovering well from illness and was even able to officiate in one of the singles matches.

Badge or no badge?
Saturday 24th September 2022 7:31pm
An unexpected phone call brought wonderful news to three members of the EVBC Surrey Fours team. Going into the final at Horley (see previous report), they believed that they had not played the requisite number of matches to be eligible for a Surrey badge. However, the caller advised that the bye they were given in the very first round also counted as a match and so they were eligible after all! As Tony Doyle already has his Surrey badge through his progress in the men's singles competition (see previous report), it is Tracie Bailey, Christine Dally and Martin Bailey who now look forward to a Surrey match call-up, after which they will receive their badge. Our well deserved congratulations go to them all.

The winners of each group, Chessington and Ewell Village, played in the final, which was narrowly won by Chessington. Following an excellent meal, Jeremy Dearmer presented Martin with the RDML shield.
