A beautiful, but slightly chilly day at Horley Bowling Club, where bacon sandwiches and mugs of tea & coffee were definitely welcome. EVBC played their semi-final, mixed fours match against Oxshott in the morning and beat them 20 - 15. After an excellent ploughman's lunch, they took on a young team from Wandilea Bowls Club, Earlsfield, in South London. A tight game, but Wandilea eventually won 15 - 13. A good result for Ewell, especially as three of the Wandilea team not only took part in the National Finals at Leamington Spa, but won the Mixed Fours completing the double of Surrey and National Mixed Four Champions.
Congratulations to Tracie Bailey, Christine Dally, Martin Bailey and Tony Doyle. Thanks also to those who turned out to support the team - Carolyn and Laurence, Derek and Lynda, Brian and Pam, Rosalind (Tracie's sister) and Stephen.
Note: The organisers apologised for there not being anything for the runners-up to mark their achievement and later advised that a new trophy would be initiated and a presentation would be held at the club, in due course.
